Eckhart von Hochheim or Meister Eckhart was a thirteenth/fourteenth-century German philosopher, theologian, and a great mystic.Meister Eckhart joined the Dominican order and studied in Cologne, Germany. Later he taught theology at Saint-Jacques’s priory in Paris, receiving a master’s degree in 1302.Eckhart’s work was widely read throughout the centuries. He wrote four works in German that are called ’treatises’. He was considered one of the most knowledgeable scholars of the century. Eckhart was known for preaching a personal and internal way to reach for with prayers and sermons when Churches were ritualistic and hierarchical. According to Eckhart, the most powerful form of prayer is by a person who has sunk deep down into God’s will and abandoned all self-will with no regard for their own gain or obsession with worldly pleasure.Due to Eckhart’s popularity many a prayer and sermons have been misattributed to him, for example, the quotes “And suddenly you know: It’s time to start something new and trust the magic of beginnings.” and “If ’thank you’ is the only prayer you can utter in your lifetime, that would be enough” are misattributed and disputed. For more related content take a look at Arthur Schopenhauer quotes and Max Stirner quotes.‍Meister Eckhart Quotes About GodLearn more about God with these great Meister Eckhart quotes.
